A humane yet unflinching dramatization of the polio-afflicted journalist and poet Mark O’Brien’s attempt to attain basic sexual fulfillment through the use of a surrogate, The Sessions is an unusually mature examination of sex, featuring lovely performances from John Hawkes and Helen Hunt, in a role for which she received an Oscar nomination.
