Synopsis:

Ava DuVernay’s sophomore feature puts us on intimate terms with Ruby, a single-minded young woman who drops out of medical school to devote herself to her incarcerated husband. Waiting, wondering about how another life could be and working toward it, Ruby emerges before out eyes as a deeply sympathetic, complex character, filling the quiet spaces of this sensitive, unforgettable film.
