Mercedes Moncada Rodríguez was born in Seville. She is a trained sociologist with experience in journalism and field research. She began her filmmaking career in 1996. Her films include The Passion of Maria Elena (2003), El inmortal (2005), :a sirena y el buzo (2009) and Magic Words (2012).
